Tempest In A Teacup Chapter Thirteen
The next day after tweeting that picture I'm not surprised when Zac calls to confront me. I am surprised though when he says that he got Bethany to forgive him. I swear that girl says one thing then does another though maybe I am just like her and that is why I can see her flaws better than my own.
It's after my call with Zac that I get a visitor in the form of Nikki who I haven't seen since being back from Jamaica. I let her in and lead her into the living room where she sits down on my couch slowly. I swear her belly has gotten bigger though I guess it would since she is due in March and it's almost February now.
"So what made you decide to come over here?" I ask before going into the kitchen to get her a drink. Opening the fridge I grab a green tea and take it out to her. "Green tea okay with you?" I ask another question, holding the bottle out to her.
Nikki takes the bottle from me and I sit down beside her on the couch as she takes a drink, "Bethany's still in the picture," she muses as she locks eyes with me. "And your shade tweeting about Zac. That would be why I came over here. I need to do something fun since I can't really do the things I like with this big ole belly in the way now."
Laughing at her belly comment I put a hand on my own belly which is slowly forming. If I wear just the right clothes now my bump is becoming visible. "She is still in the picture," I mutter knowing I am going to have to explain why I didn't tell Zac the truth about her yet. "It's not my truth to tell on her Nik," I reason as I shake my head. "I talked to her and told her I knew and that she needed to tell Zac."
"But you know as well as I do she isn't going too Natalie," Nikki sighs and I can tell she is frustrated that I didn't tell Zac. "She is just as crazy as you are in when it comes to wanting Zac," she sighs again and blushes realizing what she said. "Sorry I didn't mean that as a diss but I mean she isn't going to tell him something that is going to make him leave her. She'll do whatever she can to keep him. Knowing her she's probably plotting up ways to get pregnant again."
Going silent at Nikki's words I know she is right but sadly I don't feel it's my place still to tell Zac. It would just make him more pissed off at me when that is the last thing I need right now. "All secrets come out. I am sure if Bethany doesn't tell Zac about her abortion and the baby not being his then someone else well. I mean Austin knows and Leigh knows."
"Leigh is her sister and probably forever devoted even if she does blab some things to Austin," Nikki reasons before running a hand through her hair. "Listen Natalie you have until Zac's engagement party to tell him. If you don't then I will," she mutters crossing her arm over her chest.
I raise my eyebrow at her words not having known Zac was even having an engagement party. "Zac is having an engagement party?" I ask watching as Nikki makes a face. Obviously she has just realized she wasn't supposed to tell me this information. "When is it?"
Nikki chews on her lip as if she is contemplating telling me or not when it is. "Two weeks from today," she finally reveals. "I'm hoping I will have had the baby by then," she smiles resting a hand on her bump. "But if not I will be grumpy and I can blame telling Zac on that. I mean if you haven't told him by then."
"If I don't tell him by then you have my blessing," I smile not sure if I can tell Zac. I know he'll just be even more pissed at me. He'll think I am just causing drama. "I may go to the engagement party just to watch the shoe drop on Bethany though," I nod as I smirk at the thought of her finally getting hers.
Nikki just shakes her head at me, "They'll kill me if you show up. You weren't even supposed to know. Zac threatened both Taylor and Isaac when he was afraid one of them would tell you."
I can't help but laugh some at the thought of Zac threatening Taylor and Isaac. Mainly because I know he would never follow through with his threats, especially when it comes to anything revenge like. He wouldn't be that pissed if I did show up at his engagement party.
Before I can say anything to Nikki again her phone rings and she takes it from her purse. I can tell from the way she answer's it that it must be someone who makes her uncomfortable because she keeps making all these weird faces and her body language has changed some. She is no longer as happy as she was a few minutes ago.
When she hangs up I look at her and raise an eyebrow, "Someone you didn't want calling?" I ask and then see her nod.
"Bethany," Nikki finally tells me as she puts her phone away before standing from the couch. "She asked me to be a bridesmaid for her wedding and I accepted to be nice. She wants all of the bridesmaids to have lunch," she frowns before walking towards the door.
"Have fun," I call out sarcastically just to hear Nikki laugh before she exits the house. After she is gone I stand up and walk down the hall. River who stayed home sick is still asleep in bed. His covers are all messed up so I walk in to fix them for him. It's when he is sleeping that I really think he looks so much like his father.
"Mommy," River speaks up and I look down to see his eyes open some. "I don't feel good," he frowns before sitting up in bed.
I sit down beside him, "I know you don't baby. What is bothering you now?" I ask him before putting my hand to his forehead. He is burning up. I had only thought it was a simple cold but maybe it's more than that now. Maybe there is something more wrong with him.
"My throat hurts and I have a headache," River informs me as he moves into me whimpering some. "I want daddy here," he whispers.
I hug him some as I frown. Of course he'd want Taylor here but I know that Taylor and Kate are out of town. They had left today to go visit some of her family in Georgia and finally reveal that they were together and that he was Abe's father. The last fact still not having been told to Taylor's parents yet.
"How about I call uncle Zac?" I ask River before pulling away from the hug. "Daddy had to go out of town for work," I smile knowing that he has no clue that Taylor is dating Kate yet. The kids know Kate is around a lot and I suspect Ezra has put the pieces together but the other kids still have no clue about their relationship.
River looks as if he is contemplating things and for a moment I am afraid he is still mad at Zac for that kiss we shared in Georgia in front of the kids, but eventually he nods his head a smile on his lips. "Can you ask him if he'll bring some of his movies too? He has the best movies."
I nod before laughing, "I will ask him," I say before standing from the bed and leaving the room. Going down the hall I find my phone and quickly find Zac's names in the contacts, hitting send. I know our last conversation today didn't go well but I hope he answers me. I hope he doesn't make me let River down.
"Hello," Zac's voice comes across the phone after the second ring. "Calling me to tell me when your next ultrasound is or doing something else to make sure I lose Bethany?" he asks rather snappy.
"No," I answer him. I shake my head though I know he can't see me. "River's sick and he wanted Taylor but since Taylor is out of town I asked him if you'd be a good replacement," I speak before pausing briefly to give Zac time to reply sarcastically if he wants. He doesn't. "If you want to spend time with your son then get your ass over here and bring some of your movies. River thinks you have the best movies," I finish as I wait for his response now.
At first I am afraid he hung up on me but then I hear his breathing on the other end, "My son," he repeats the words I had just used in reference to River and I wonder if it's finally actually hitting Zac deeper that River is his. "I'll be there soon. I just need to let Isaac know to cover for me especially if Taylor calls," he speaks before hanging up without even saying goodbye.
Hanging up as well I go down the hall again where I find River still under his covers though his tv is on, "I called uncle Zac," I tell him when he notices me in the doorway. "He's on his way here."
River just nods and I turn to leave the room. Going back into the living room I clean it up some before Zac gets here and luckily for me right as I finish up I hear a knock on the door.
Going to the door I open it and see Zac standing there a few DVD's in his hand. "Come in," I say before moving aside so he can. "River's in his room waiting on you. You can take him some motrin too when you go down there," I smile before shutting the door once Zac is inside. "You should remember where we keep the medicine from when you stayed here a few months back.
Zac nods at my words and starts down the hall though he stops before getting all the way down, "I plan on telling River today that I am his father," he informs me which makes me swallow hard.
"Good luck," I mutter not sure what else to say to him. If he wants to tell River then he can. I can't stop him even if I wish he'd wait for a better time like when the kid wasn't sick but maybe if he is sick he will take it better.
After I speak Zac continues to walk away and I go over to the couch where I sit down and wait. I wait for Zac to tell River. I wait for an upset child or an upset Zac but as the hours tick away neither of those things happen which confuses me. It confuses me so much that I decide to go check on them and when I make it to River's room I smile at the sight.
Zac is laying beside River on the bed and they are both watching one of the Dumb and Dumber movies. Laughing some I feel some ease that maybe Zac hasn't told River yet. Maybe he did wait.
"Mommy," River speaks up when he does finally spot me. "Is uncle Zac really my daddy?" he asks. His question makes Zac move to pause the movie and now both of them are staring at me waiting on some kind of answer. "He said he was but I don't understand how I can have two daddies."
Going into his room I shut the door behind me before nodding my head, "Uncle Zac is your daddy," I confirm seeing a smile cross Zac's lips. "It's a long story but I can answer any questions you have," I tell River before sitting beside him on the bed now too.
River just looks at me as if he is contemplating his questions and eventually he starts firing them off for me and I answer them all to the best of my ability. I answer them all and I am surprised when River finally stops asking questions and says he is okay with uncle Zac being his daddy. He is okay with it because he has always liked uncle Zac the best.
That part makes me laugh even if I'm unsure if River really gets the meaning of things now. If he gets that the daddy he grew up with could potentially no longer play a bigger role in his life, especially if Zac gets full custody whenever we go to court.
